Keynote Speaker: Dr. John Zubizarreta
John Zubizarreta is Professor of English, Director of Honors, Past Director of Faculty Development, and former Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Columbia College. Recognized as one of the country’s top “2017 Innovators: Ten Classroom Trailblazers” by the Chronicle of Higher Education, he is the 2010 Carnegie Foundation/CASE U.S. Professor for Baccalaureate Colleges and recipient of several other national and international teaching awards.
He is the author of The Learning Portfolio: Reflective Practice for Improving Student Learning (2nd ed., 2009) and co-author of Breaking Barriers in Teaching and Learning (2018), Inspiring Exemplary Teaching and Learning: Perspectives on Teaching Academically Talented College Students (2008), and The Robert Frost Encyclopedia (2001). John is a Past President of the National Collegiate Honors Council, the Southern Regional Honors Council, and the Popular Culture Association in the South. A longtime member of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education (POD), he sits on editorial and governing boards of various educational journals and organizations, and he has delivered keynote addresses worldwide, led faculty development workshops at many institutions, and made presentations at numerous professional conferences in over twenty countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. He has also conducted several academic program reviews and collaborated with hundreds of students on panel presentations, publications, and collaborative undergraduate research. He is an avid telemark skier, an aching runner, a former ten-time medalist in national whitewater canoe championships, a moonstruck husband, and a doting father of two grown girls.

About the Conference The 2020 Southern Regional Faculty and Instructional Development Consortium (SRFIDC) annual meeting marks the 44th year of its annual sharing conference. Join us at the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg!
Conference Presentation Formats The 2020 sharing conference will include two distinct session formats: 90 minute presentation (60 minute interactive presentation, 30 minute practical application with attendees), or 45 minute sharing session (presenters discuss activities underway at their centers and share workshop materials with attendees).
